Engine Unit Number
'(For Manufacturing and Service Use)'

V-8 engines have the engine unit number stamped on a machined pad at the front of the right cylinder head. (See graphic, below left.)

The L-6 Engine has a DATE-CODE stamped on the right side of the engine block, directly to the rear of the distributor. The date code consists of a letter, four digits and two letters. The first letter stand for source identification. The first two digits show the month and the second two digits show the day the unit was built. The last two letters show transmission or option usage.
