Ugh! As you can see, I definitely had my work ahead of me! It was pretty much complete under the hood, but it was going to take a LOT of elbow grease to get it worthy of receiving what was in the works.

After MANY hours of sanding, stripping, priming and painting, the engine compartment is about ready to receive it's new powerplant. The newly-completed engine sits in the background.

This is one of the three 442's purchased. This particular one was an original 4-speed car, and supplied some of the black interior pieces, the 442 emblems, the 3.91-geared posi and numerous miscellaneous pieces. I also kept the clutch/brake pedal assembly from this, should I ever decide to try a manual transmission.

The interior is stripped out and the monumental task of cleaning the mouse-nests out of everywhere is complete. The black interior is starting to go in.

The interior here is about half done. This car was originally a bench-seat car, so I had to weld in the bucket seat brackets from my driver. The console and Hurst dual-gate is from a '67 GTO. The black dash in the other car was unusable, so I'm still looking for one of those.

Another shot of the interior at the half-way point. My father is an upholsterer by trade, so the seats will be sent to him for a nice set of pleated covers. Gotta have that black interior on the hotrod, right?

OK, OK, so this isn't a Cutlass, but this car is very relevant to this project. This is the '68 Toronado that supplied the powerplant. I bought it for $300 to put in a demolition derby, but decided not to, so we chopped the top (literally!) and drove it around the summer I was getting the 442 ready.

I spent my entire tax refund (and some savings) towards all the necessary engine parts. Here, the block has been bored out .030-over and painted, and awaits the internals.

The engine is built, and awaits transplanting. It was heavy enough I had to prop it up with a 2x4 while on the engine stand! NEVER skimp on the engine stand...always get more than you think you'll need!

The built 455 is getting nestled into it's new home. I had to insert the Hedman headers into place while the engine was about halfway in, and slowly lower it into place.
